Technology and Wi-Fi
These days, children and staff manage their diabetes with their phone. (It connects to their glucose monitor and insulin pump via Bluetooth.) We are able to monitor their blood sugar levels via an app that connects via wifi.
We have excellent wifi service at both of our camps; it covers the entire property with excellent signal strength. While this does pose some challenges when it comes to keeping staff/children from only using their phone at appropriate times, it means that keeping in touch with friends and family is easy for staff members.
We recommend that international staff bring a phone/tablet/computer so that they can call/Zoom/etc. with people at home when you are on break. In the olden days, internationals would need to buy an American SIM card for their phone. While this can still be useful, it may not be necessary while you are at camp.
